1947

Jackie Robinson stepped to the plate in a major league game for the first time, 58 years ago in Brooklyn. A new era had begun for the sport.
Young "Hy" Herman Schecter pays $1,006 to Walter Sommers to start his own textile converting company. Flexible plastic is born.

1949

"Joltin" Joe Dimaggio signed with the New York Yankees for a record sum of $100,000 -- the first six-figure sum in major league history.
First calendered PVC in continuous rolls imported from Germany- Roller Patent™ & Roller Clear™ still trademarks for Sommers Plastics.

1951

Bobby Thomson's three-run, ninth-inning home run off Ralph Branca (pal of Hy Schecter), lifts Giants over Dogers in N.L. playoff series.
Hy & Doris Schecter introduce one more successfull creation - "Joltin" Fred Michael, 7 lbs., 8oz. born in Brooklyn.

1952

Duke Snider hit a two-run homer for the Dodgers, and double-play partners Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson chipped in with RBI's
The Schecters hit a game-winning double with the birth of Edward.

1967

The National League squeaked by with a 15-inning victory, the longest contest in All0Star Game history.
US Rubber, now Uniroyal, invents Naugahyde™ - the first expanded PVC. Sommers is given exclusive distribution rights to all fashion industries with their longest running trademark, Marshmallow™.

1996

Texas Rangers run up the largest score in American League history against te Baltimore Orioles 26-7, with 16 of the runs in the 56-minute eighth inning-largest 8th inning rally in baseball history
Nike and Sommers collaborate on the debute design of Michael Jordans's Jumpman sneakers. Initial $4,000,000 order for 16 million holograms and lenticulars is Sommers' largest in fifty-year history.

1997

Barry Bonds becomes the third player after legends Hand Aaron and Babe Ruth to hit 700 homers in his career.
Sommers is the first company in the world to introduce Chroma-Flair™ color-shifting pigment in a synthetic leather. Sold to Fila and Nike for footware and to Steelcase DesignTex group for upholstery.
